The History of my Closet

A couple days ago I was cleaning out my closet. I came across the teeniest, tiniest pair of extra small shorts in the back of my closet. Five years ago these shorts were the perfect fit. Today I could probably get the entire pair over one thigh and no, I refused to try it. For a minute my heart dropped. I felt a rush of emotions.

Then a little twinge of pride came over me.

Yes I said pride. I am so much healthier than I was when I would squeeze into those tiny shorts. I was hungry on a 24/7 basis, cranky, and just about the most boring person ever. Even back when I was tiny, I was self-conscious. I hated my body. I would never wear a bikini. I didn’t like me.

My struggle with nutrition and weight loss is a bit different than most. I lost all the weight I ever wanted and then some and I was miserable. I gained it all back and was miserable.

What I wasn’t getting was my weight wasn’t the problem. No diet or smallest size possible was going to make me learn to like myself. Tweet it! I am a whole lot happier with only a thigh cramming into teeny tiny shorts than I ever was when they were loose on my hips.

Happiness doesn’t always come in a size extra small. I have the shorts to prove it.

Why you can’t lose those last 10lbs…

Ever had a moment where you thought to yourself, if I could just lose those last ten pounds then I would totally ask for a raise? Or what about, if I could just get to my goal weight then I will start experimenting more with my food choices. Or my personal favorite, if I just lost a couple pounds, I’d be much more comfortable dating. I’m guessing that if you’re reading my blog you’ve probably thought something along these lines at least once before.  Want to know the secret to getting out of that frame of mind?

Today I want to tell you about a client of mine, we’ll call her Hilary. Hilary and I have been working together for months and she’s been making amazing changes but she keeps getting hung up on those last five pounds. During a recent phone session she was feeling particularly negative about her weight. Instead of letting her get stuck in this I stopped her. I told her if I could snap my fingers and put her at her ideal weight what would she do?

I got a laundry list of things but instead of tackling all of them at once, we stuck to one. That weekend she committed to making one act of fun that she would typically deem off limits until she was at her “goal weight”, happen. She committed to indulging in a glass of wine with her husband. For the next few days that’s all we focused on. No major changes in her thinking or eating. No huge list of goals to tackle, just a simple task of sitting down with her husband.

You see, I’m all about creating small action steps because I know that it is these tiny little steps over time that propel us into drastic change.  The following session I plan on tackling another thing on her list, and then another, until we completely fulfill her desires of “to do’s” when she’s skinny.  Here’s the tricky part, she’s not at that ideal weight yet and yes it’s a bit uncomfortable, and there is a bit of hesitation, but I know she will feel amazing eventually. Sometimes we all just need a big push to take a little step. Tweet it!

In fact, I myself have needed a couple huge pushes in the right direction to get myself to feel awesome about my body. At the time I may not have been thrilled about it but once I took those steps, I slowly got back on my feet. I suddenly forgot that I was waiting on something (the weight) before I did things. I know Hilary is on her way to the same experience and I am so excited for her!

Want to get a few action steps of your own? If you feel like you are waiting on the weight loss to make your life fun, make your dreams happen, or just live your life, I want to help. I am currently offering a one-hour strategy session for anyone who is stuck in this diet and weight loss struggle. I want to create action steps customized just for you to point you in the right direction. If this is something you are interested in please send me an email to [email protected].

Once I receive your email or appointment confirmation you will receive an invoice for $100.00. Once it is paid I will be in touch to book your strategy session.

I can’t wait to talk with you!

Is Perfection Worth It?

Have you ever wondered whether having the “perfect” body is actually worth it? Today I’m uncovering whether it really is. Recently I’ve been helping one of my VIP clients through some major transformations. Thus far she’s been doing amazing and has lost a ton of weight, along with building some major confidence. I couldn’t be prouder. Once in a while though she gets stuck. For her there is a constant internal debate between wanting a perfect body and learning to live her life all at the same time.

When we discuss things such as loosing the last ten pounds, or wanting to “tone” up, the question comes up. At what price is this worth it to you? You see I could very well help her to tone up, lose weight, and get that perfect body she desires, however what is it worth to her? Does she want to spend extra hours at the gym every day, cut out bread from her life, skip on dinner dates, and stop eating a small piece of dark chocolate a day? Or is it about finding a place where she is able to be 100% happy and confident in her own skin while living a life she adores?

To be honest I think she is well on her way to the latter with a whole lot of success in the positive body image boost as well as some weight loss wins along the way. Together we have gotten her to a place where she feels great about herself, enjoys buying new clothes, goes out to eat, and still has some chocolate when she wants it. She also moves her body in a way that she loves and doesn’t stress about her food, but still preps vegetables ahead, stocks up on healthy foods, and eats her fruits and veggies.

She has slowly found her healthy balance and it is in that comfortable place between having the “perfect” body and living a life she loves. Now she has a body that she sees as beautiful, enjoys her life, and feels great about herself, all without giving up chocolate and fun for good. So next time you dream about being a size 0 or having a model’s body, ask yourself, what is that “size” or body worth to you? Tweet It!

If you’re looking to find for this healthy balance between a life and a body you love, I want to invite to take advatange of one of my 3 spots I have open for an emotional eating and body image strategy session.

I am currently offering a one-hour power session for anyone battling with emotional eating and poor body image and I would love to offer you support in this area.

If this is something you are interested in please send me an email to [email protected] or head over to my schedule and book a session.

Once I receive your email or your session confirmation you will receive an invoice for $100.00. Once it is paid I will be in touch to book your strategy session.

The Secret to Never Worrying About your Weight Again

I’ve been putting off writing this personal note for awhile but I figure there is no time better than today to share this story with you. As you may have noticed, I’ve been promoting Sarah Jenks’ Live More Weigh Less program on my blog a lot recently and I’ve gotten a couple raised eyebrows for it! If I am a nutrition coach myself, why then am I promoting someone else’s program? Well here’s the deal, I am promoting it because I have done it. I know it works. Sarah has been my coach and I can say I have totally shifted my viewpoint on nutrition, my body, and my life. My work with Sarah has been so much more than just a “weight loss program”. Sarah has helped me to transform my life and it has honestly been the best investment I have ever made.

You see I’ve always felt burdened by my weight and had a funky relationship with food. Up until a year ago I was attempting to apply every single little scientific fact I learned in my Master’s program to my diet with the hopes of losing weight. Then I discovered Sarah. Sarah taught me that my problem had absolutely nothing to do with what I was eating. She was real and honest with me and made my life ten times more fun. I started making changes in my life that I would have never considered in the past and suddenly I started noticing changes. Sometimes it was just a little extra positive energy in my day, other times it was the way my clothes, and other moments I found myself doing things I once thought I could not.

For the first time in a long time, I found confidence, I learned to not look in the mirror and cringe. I still remember the first day I looked back and thought “hey I actually ate like a normal person today”! Sarah has been more than just a coach, she has been a friend, a support system, and a mentor and has made getting healthy a total blast. I recommend Live More Weigh Less to you with 100% confidence because  after being a part of her program I feel like a completely different person. I have grown as both a coach and a person.

I know this weight loss topic can be taboo, but I really believe that having more fun and taking care of our bodies can be a celebration we can share in together, so I wanted to make sure I shared Sarah’s free video training series with you.  In it she lays out her roadmap for creating a life you love and body you adore.  Watching it has been a great tune up for me!

I hope you’ll check it out here because I really believe this could change everything for you.

I can’t tell you how awesome it is to no longer be caught up in the self-hatred and diet cycle and I really want you to experience this for yourself.  If you have any questions, please let me know!
